Watch for

The Denver drive consumes much of a day, Ouray and Ridgway are separate bases, and high-country trails or roads can remain snowy after the developed campgrounds open.

Via US-285 and US-50 to Montrose, then US-550 south. This is a long mountain drive even before local travel. US-550 south of Ridgway can be affected by storms, construction and winter conditions; the Million Dollar Highway beyond Ouray is not required for these stays.
