The campgrounds are spread far up the river, snow can block nominally year-round roads, and this region does not provide a truthful under-90-minute base for San Luis Peak's Stewart Creek trailhead.

Via US-285 and US-50 over Monarch Pass to CO-149. This is a long mountain drive before local travel up the Rio Grande. Monarch Pass, CO-149, forest roads, snow and fire restrictions can change independently, and the upper campgrounds are well beyond Creede itself.
